An island where all currents converge, the heart of the ocean's circulatory system.
Like clockwork, the changing tides move the fate of men and land alike.

At its center, a pond that seems to shift and change along with whatever enters it, its pull infinite, spinning vortically towards its unfathomable depths.
It provides all the fish, mollusks, cattails and algae necessary for the preparation of the rations that are distributed daily to the people of the island.

A small man, who took advantage of a fishing incident to weave a cautionary tale that allowed him to seize power under the pretense of imminent danger, projecting the image of provider and protector.
After filling the common folk with terror of the sea, the legend gave birth to a larger than life figure known as Flamingo; he had fishermen collect all kinds of sea creatures to populate the Fathomless Pond, generating a new, unpredictable ecosystem.
All boats were destroyed or seized and venturing out to sea was forbidden, for the safety of the everyman.

Baumgarten was a labor of love born from the intense fascination I felt towards the little island of the same name in the neighborhood where I live.
The bridge seems to approach the island, floating above shacks and trees, affording only a vantage from above but no true passage; Boats or makeshift rafts are the only way to reach the mainland.

I found myself daydreaming stories about the people who inhabited it, the imagination ran free and spawned a new world which had little to do with the original inspiration other than the spirit from which it arose.

The project started as a worldbuilding effort and a storytelling study at the same time, offering plenty of stimuli as well as constraints, both vital for the creative process. I filled sketchbooks, notepads, corkboards: some of it made it to what you see here now, though there's no telling to where this will end up.
